TEACHER HALL OF FAME
CLASS OF 2025-2026
Kelly Near
Eighth Grade Social Studies
CCA Middle School
Ms. Kelly Near has dedicated 19 years to César Chávez Academy Middle (CCAM), consistently demonstrating professionalism, compassion and deep commitment to student success. She maintains strong relationships while holding students to high expectations and continually reflects on how to reach every learner. Ms. Near mentors numerous adults as both a mentor teacher and cooperating teacher for student teachers, helping shape the next generation of educators. Her creativity, dedication and strong connections make her an irreplaceable member of our school community. Ms. Near transforms difficult content into hands-on, relatable learning experiences. Students who struggle with social studies find confidence and success because she breaks concepts down and connects them to daily life. “Her classroom is filled with engagement, discussion and activities that make students feel seen and capable. She is truly a dynamic educator,” says assistant school leader Victoria Adams.
Jesica Poulos
Middle School Mathematics
Saginaw Preparatory Academy
Ms. Jesica Poulos is a perfect example of a transformative educator. She consistently shows up for both students and teammates, during the school day and beyond, offering support, guidance and a willingness to step in whenever needed. Student success is at the forefront of everything she does, and she remains deeply committed to her own professional growth, continuously seeking ways to improve her practice for the benefit of our students. While she is a strong math teacher, what truly amplifies her impact are the relationships she builds with her students. Many of our students have experienced trauma outside of school, and she works hard to be a safe, steady presence. “Students consider her 'their person’, the adult they think of first when they need help or support, because she makes them feel safe and understood. That kind of trust is not easily earned, and it speaks volumes about who she is as an educator and a person,” reflects school leader Crystal Mills.

Mr. Baker continuously supports students who struggle academically and socially by creating a safe, encouraging environment where mistakes become opportunities to grow. “Through strong relationships and genuine belief in their potential, he helps his students gain confidence, improve academically and develop a sense of belonging. This opens their eyes to new possibilities for their future,” acknowledges math specialist Amira Abunadi.

She is committed to refining her instructional practice through ongoing research and learning. She is always looking for new techniques and strategies to support her students and generously shares these insights to enhance the school community. She truly embodies the mindset of a lifelong learner. Ms. Cady is the kind of teacher who spends her free time listening to education podcasts and thinking about how to better support her students. “She does not just raise questions; she tackles them head on, often coming the next day with a fully researched plan and actionable solutions. Her curiosity, energy and slightly quirky love of learning make her an inspiring role model for both colleagues and students,” shares school leader Andrew Wright.

He volunteers his time for after-school events and plays a vital role in planning and implementing concerts that showcase talent and build community pride. His commitment, passion and impact make him truly deserving of this honor. “A powerful example of Mr. MacLean’s impact is the former students who return years later to share their accomplishments. Martha Garcia-Barba
Kindergarten
CCA Lower Elementary
Ms. Martha Garcia-Barba is nothing short of a firecracker in the classroom. From the moment students walk through the door, the energy is unmistakable. Every minute is purposeful, every moment an opportunity to learn. Instruction is intentional and fast-paced, yet never rushed; it is thoughtfully crafted to ensure that all students are engaged, challenged and supported. What truly sets her apart is the seamless balance between high expectations and a strong sense of community. Students are not only learning, they are collaborating, questioning and growing together. The classroom is alive with discussion, movement and curiosity. Engagement is not an occasional strategy; it is the foundation of the learning environment. Equally powerful is the culture of trust that has been built. Students feel safe to take risks, share ideas and make mistakes, knowing they are valued and respected. This sense of belonging fuels both confidence and achievement. Above all, Ms. Garcia-Barba embodies a genuine love for both teaching and learning, and that passion is contagious. Students don’t just participate; they invest. "The classroom is a place where joy and rigor coexist, where laughter and learning go hand in hand, simply put, it is a fun place to be, and an extraordinary place to grow," notes school leader Gabriela Jaime.
